Snapchat is an image messaging application created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. They are former students of Stanford University. The basic idea behind Snapchat is to create curiosity amongst the users. The application follows a basic rule of disappearing after 10 seconds (Not the application but the image or text). Just to be clear, it is the first application to have done something like this for the users of social media. Thereafter, social media’s like Facebook and Instagram tried to adapt this new feature which by the way is not as great as the actual Snapchat one (In my opinion). The amount of fun that the creators of Snapchat is not even half of what the users have had since the application has been launched. It has received a lot of love from the users and has managed to become very famous in a very small amount of time.
Recently an article was posted that the Ex-employee of the company Anthony Pompliano has given a statement that during his meeting with the creator of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel regarding the app’s international growth plans, he stated that “THE APP IS ONLY FOR RICH PEOPLE” and he doesn’t want to expand into poor countries like India. After this statement got published there has been a great fall in the ratings of Snapchat on App Store and Google. The company has also lost a lot of its users in India.
People who swore by Snapchat are now ready to delete it, without even knowing the actual story behind the whole scenario. Though the Snap spokesperson told several Indian news outlets that “OBVIOUSLY, SNAPCHAT IS FOR EVERYONE! IT’S AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE TO DOWNLOAD FOR FREE. THOSE WORDS WERE WRITTEN BY A DISGRUNTLED FORMER EMPLOYEE. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR OUR SNAPCHAT COMMUNITY IN INDIA AND AROUND THE WORLD.” Though the company is denying the fact that something like this was ever said by the creator of the application, people are very aggressive towards the app.
The thing is the words are not said by the creator of the app, but an Ex-employee, who was evicted within three weeks of his office. There must have been a reason behind this act of such a big company. People hear all sort of things and react on it without even thinking about it. If the creator had a problem with India he would have kept it chargeable in India, or may have put no similar features that are available in countries other than India, but this is not the case. This is also a fact that you can never trust an EX-employee, because you never know why he was fired from his job. Someone who is not related to the company any more can be a big threat to the company as he knows it inside out.
It’s very important to do a proper research and then reach to a conclusion. Did you know India is on the 140th ranking according to the internet speed list of countries?
No, you might not have known this. Let’s assume that the creator of the app even said the statement that has been published, but were you present in the room to know and judge exactly what was the scenario and the topic of discussion. He might have said it in a different way or might have meant something else. But in India we have a habit of following the crowd. We do not want to use our own brains and get to the bottom of the situation, we just want to agree to the assumptions that have been set in front of us and the main reason behind this is that we think we all are over smart.
The reason is that we don’t want to do the hard work and thus believe whatever the other person is saying. Sometimes, the media has to print things that they don’t believe in, just for publicity, but that doesn’t mean that they are always putting right allegations on some one. Never form a judgement till the time you have heard from both the parties, and know exactly what the situation or problem was.
At least we should wait till the time the case is solved because at the bottom of our hearts we all love SNAPCHAT.
